Overview

Decide how a What is new panel greets your customers and watch it happen, with this changelog widget settings window for React with Base UI. A framed window holds a rail of three Switches, Auto-open, Show only unseen and Badge, with a sentence under them that says what a visitor sees given the three. Beside it is a drawn page of the customer's own app with a launcher in a corner that a Segment Group moves, and the panel open on it with four entries, each New or Seen. The badge on the launcher is always the number of entries still new, opening an entry shows it and marks it seen, and with Show only unseen on the list is only what was new when the panel opened. Replay a first visit puts the sample visitor back. The top bar holds a Discard button and the one Shine Button that saves the settings in the page. It's built from Switch, Segment Group, Button, Shine Button and Guides, with the panel drawn by hand and a CSS entrance only. For release notes, product updates or any list that has a new and a seen state.

FAQ

How is the badge worked out?

It is not a number you type: it is the length of the list of entries that are not in the seen list, so opening an entry takes one off, and Replay a first visit restores the sample visitor's starting list. Turn the Badge switch off and the launcher keeps working without a count. The entries and the starting seen list are typed at the top of the file.

What does Show only unseen do to the list?

It freezes the list at what was new when the panel opened, so an entry you just read stays in front of you instead of vanishing under your hand, and the next time the panel opens it is gone. With the switch off the panel lists all four entries, with a New or Seen word beside each.

Is the panel a real popover?

It is drawn in place by hand so the window keeps its height: the launcher is a button with aria-expanded, Escape and Close give focus back to it, and the panel is not a modal because the page behind it still works. In your app a Popover is the right part, and the rest of the block stays as it is.

What stays local, and how do I make it real?

Everything. No visitor is real, nothing is stored and Save keeps the settings in this page's state. In your app, store each visitor's seen entries on the server or in their browser, count what is newer than their last visit, and keep the settings with the site so the loader can read them.

How does it work by keyboard and on a phone?

The switches, the corner choice, the launcher and each entry are real buttons you reach with Tab, an entry opens with Enter or Space, and the window holds its height with only its regions scrolling. On a phone the rail stacks over the drawn app inside the window, which keeps its height and scrolls inside itself, and Discard shrinks to an icon button; the status line is a polite live region.
