About
Use it to point at one category in a set: the plan you're selling, this month's leader, the item the page is about. The highlight comes from the data, not the hover, so it holds in a screenshot. For colors without a single focus, the mixed bar chart fits.
Five rounded bars stand in their browsers' colors. The third, Firefox, keeps its color at 80% and gets a 2px dashed outline in the same color. The tooltip shows the visitor count without a title.

- The highlight lives in the mark's options:
fill, strokeandstrokeDasharrayare functions that check the row'sindexagainstACTIVE_INDEXand return the active style for Firefox, the plain one for the rest. - The outline is
strokeDasharray: "4"atstrokeWidth: 2; the active fill mixes the browser's color at 80% withcolor-mix(). - Each browser has a
chartConfigentry with a--chart-Ncolor, andvisitorsadds the value's label. radius: 8rounds every bar, the outlined one included. The x axis prints each browser's name, not its key.- To move the highlight with focus instead, put the same style in
stateswithwhen: { focus: "primary" }.
FAQ
How do I change which bar is active?
The fill, stroke and strokeDasharray accessors compare the row's index to ACTIVE_INDEX, 2 for Firefox. Change it, compare datum.browser to a name, or keep the choice in state, and the highlight moves.
How is the dashed outline drawn?
With the bar's own stroke in the browser's color, strokeWidth: 2 and strokeDasharray: "4": four pixels drawn, four skipped. Drop the dash array for a solid outline.
Can the active bar follow the pointer?
Yes. Give barY a states entry with when: { focus: "primary" } and the same style (stroke, strokeDasharray, fillOpacity). The focused bar takes it, from the pointer or the arrow keys.
