Overview

Choose a restore point and see exactly what a restore would read, with this backup panel for Vue with Ark UI. A hairline frame with a plus mark on each corner holds a strip of 30 days of Rootcellar database backups: a tall bar for each Sunday's full copy, a short bar for each daily incremental and a dashed cross for the one day that failed. Pressing a day builds the restore chain, the last full copy before it plus every incremental up to it, in a table with sizes and times, and adds them up as "Restore in about 50 minutes, 3 files". "Restore to this point" asks in an AlertDialog and then queues the restore on the page. For database consoles and disaster recovery screens.

FAQ

How do I use my own backups?

Edit SIZES, one size in GB for each of the 30 days starting on a Sunday, with a zero for a day that failed. The first day is START_DAY. Full copies fall on every seventh day, and the chain, the times and the totals are worked out from the sizes with FULL_RATE and INCREMENTAL_RATE.

How is the restore chain built?

It is the last full copy on or before the chosen day and every incremental after it up to that day, skipping a failed day. The day after the failure carries a note that it also covers the missed day. Time is each file's size divided by a rate, added up.

What happens when I pick the failed day?

There is no restore point for it, so the chain is replaced by a short message that names the nearest earlier point and offers to pick it. The button says why nothing happened instead of opening the dialog, and the panel keeps its height.

What stays local, and how do I wire it for real?

Everything: sizes and times are typed, and Queue restore only writes a line in the status. Call your backup service from confirm, show its job id in the status and keep the dialog, which is the last chance to stop an overwrite.

How do I use the strip from the keyboard?

The strip is one tab stop on the chosen day. The left and right arrow keys, Home and End move along it, and Enter or Space chooses a day. Each day is named with its weekday, date, kind and size.

How does it look on a phone?

The strip wraps to two rows of 15 days, the chain table keeps three columns, and the restore button is pinned to the foot.
