Overview
Show a new account how far it has come, with this getting started empty state for Solid with Ark UI. A hairline frame with a plus mark on each corner holds the checklist card that sits on Alderly's empty dashboard, a CRM for small businesses. A headline counts down from "3 steps to go" to "You are set up" beside "1 of 4 done", over a Progress bar in the foreground color. Four steps (set up your profile, start your first project, invite a teammate, connect one tool) are real Checkbox rows with the first open one marked Next in words; beside them a greyscale drawing of a trail up a hill has four waypoints and a flag that walks to the done count, the stretches still ahead dashed and the ones walked solid. The Shine Button, the only colored control, names the next step and ticks it in the demo; when all four are done it opens the dashboard. The frame's bands are ruled by Guides, and everything moves with CSS transitions only. For the first-run card of any app with a short setup.
FAQ
What stays in the page, and how do I make the steps real?
The ticked steps live in the page's state and nothing is saved or sent: reload and "Set up your profile" is the only step done. For the real thing, start START from your account's completed steps and save each tick where the code says so. Make the button a link to the next step's own page instead of ticking it, and let the checkboxes show what your product already knows is done.
How is Next chosen, and can I do the steps in any order?
Next is the first step that is still open, so it moves as steps are ticked; any step can be ticked or unticked in any order, and the headline, the count, the bar, the trail and the button's label all follow. Done and Next are written as words, never only as a color.
How does the drawing react without moving anything?
It is one inline SVG that only changes classes: each stretch of trail has a dashed copy and a solid copy that fades in when that stretch has been walked, the waypoints fill in, and the flag moves to the done count with a transition on its position. Reduced motion switches the transitions off. The drawing is decorative and hidden from screen readers; the checklist, the headline and the status line say the same thing in words.
Is it usable with a keyboard and a screen reader?
Tab visits each checkbox, then the button, then Start over, which stays quiet (and says so if pressed) until something has changed. Each checkbox is named by its step and described by its hint, and a click anywhere on the row ticks it. Every change is written to a polite status line in the pinned foot ("Start your first project: done."). The progress bar is decorative because the count is in the text beside it.
